Great British Menu (GBM) returns to our screens on January 23rd for season 19. The BBC2 show puts the nation’s most talented chefs to the test. At Women in the Food Industry we are continuing our series of interviews with the strong female line-up of chefs from across Britain competing to serve their dish at the final banquet. Our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, interviewed Samira Effa, Head Chef at Grantley Hall’s pan-Asian restaurant, Bar & Restaurant EightyEight.

Alexa Fernandez is the Founder and CEO of Chili Maven, bringing the flavour & fire of authentic Mexican chilis with her Great Taste award winning salsa macha products. At Women in the Food Industry we were pleased to see women making up almost a third of the chefs from across Britain who will be competing to serve their dish at the final banquet.

At Women in the Food Industry we were pleased to see women making up a quarter of the chefs from across Britain who will be competing to serve their dish at the final banquet.  This year GBM has been re-vamped again with more dishes, more chefs and a new presenter.

The Caroline Walker Trust Awards showcase the passion, courage and conviction of those who work to improve the quality of our food and nation’s health. The winners of the 2019 awards were announced on 12th November and we were delighted to see so many innovative women amongst the nominees, many of whom are challenging the status quo in the field of nutrition and public health.

In the ninth of our series of Female Food Founders interviews we turn again to  education and training.  We met Catherine Farhina Founder of The Chefs’ Forum – an organisation that brings together leading chefs, colleges and food trade suppliers in the UK and beyond.  She also set up The Chefs’ Forum Educational Foundation to raise funds for young people in the hospitality industry. Our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, chatted with Catherine  about how she got into the hospitality business, the importance of developing young chefs and her food inspirations in the industry.

Food lovers, there’s a new TV show coming your way which looks a treat.  Extraordinary Places to Eat, coming soon to BBC2, features Fred Sirieix as he travels around Europe with some of Britain’s top chefs including Angela Hartnett and Nisha Katona, visiting some of their favourite places to eat.

We interviewed Samira Effa, who was working for Alimentum, Cambridge, when she took part in the show.

Just in time for International Women’s Day the  Lancaster Guardian reported on Better with Jam’s news and the partnership of our co-founders Janie Ash and Mecca Ibrahim . “A series of new events will bring together female food and drink leaders and entrepreneurs to discuss the issues impacting women working in food related careers in the United Kingdom” wrote Nick Lakin.
