Wonky veg supplier Waste Knot partner with Pasta Evangelists to help FareShare

Nationwide fresh pasta delivery service Pasta Evangelists has teamed up with our friends at
wonky veg supplier, Waste Knot, to launch its first range of “wonky” pasta dishes made from pumpkin flesh that would otherwise go to waste at this time of year.

Jess Latchford‘s organisation is supplying the pasta company with surplus pumpkins. As well as helping in the fight against food waste, with each sale, Pasta Evangelists are donating £1 from each “wonky” dish sold to FareShare.

Pumpkins from Waste Knot

Waste Knot came about as a way of getting surplus veg out of farmers’ fields and into chefs’ kitchens. Founded by fresh produce expert Jess Latchford, their mission is to make sure the farmer is paid and receives a commercial value for produce at the same time as helping restore overlooked fruit & veg to its rightful place.

Inspired by recent news that over half the UK’s 24m Halloween pumpkins are destined to become food waste this year, the Pasta Evangelists team aim to use their expertise in Italian pasta culture to let us know more about the gastronomic properties of pumpkins. The delicate, sweet flesh of which is a specialty of pasta ripiena (filled pasta) in the regions surrounding the river Po in the North of Italy.

Available to order until Friday 6th November at www.pastaevangelists.com, the limited-edition “wonky” range – which includes a Pumpkin & Black Truffle Triangoli and a vegan Pumpkin & Sage Ravioli with Wild Rocket Pesto made with surplus pumpkins supplied by Waste Knot – is designed to inspire customers to transform their own Halloween pumpkins into beautiful pasta dishes this year instead of sending them to landfill.

FareShare is born out of the belief that no good food should go to waste, especially when people are going hungry. They take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups. Every week they provide enough food to create almost a million meals for vulnerable people.
