International Women’s Day – RSA Rawthmells Friday Conversations
At 2pm join Mecca Ibrahim FRSA, co-founder of Women in The Food Industry, to explore issues common to women working in the field of food, from professional restaurants, hospitality, food, drink, farming, food journalism and blogging, right through to food photography.
Mecca aka Mex will have spent the past week helping to run a series of events exploring issues facing women, and in this talk she will draw together insights and raise questions as to why women are generally a minority in the industry, and what can be done to change this.
She will open up questions to explore why women are commonly seen as cooks and makers of food but are a minority in professional kitchens (only 18% of professional chefs are female) and discuss what can be done to change perceptions and the reality of women in the food world.
