Rukia Begum

Rukia Begum, founder of award-winning samosa brand Mixed Thal, was born in Bangladesh.  She moved to London, UK with her family at an early age. Growing up in London she was mesmerised by the diversity of culture, food, and fashion around her. Mixed Thal was born from a desire to capture these flavours of multi-cultural London.

Her happiest memories include roaming the local markets with her siblings trying out various food stalls, and occasionally when opportunities rose, sneaking away to her friends’ homes for their mums’ traditional home cooking, be it Chinese, Indian, Thai, or Caribbean.

Food plays an integral part in Bangladeshi culture, her family keenly celebrated all festivals, harvests, and new births with huge gatherings of family, friends, and neighbours.

Along the way Rukia has worked in a variety of professions including banking, finance, local authority, and charity organisations.

But it was a long held dream for her to create a platform where multiple cuisines could be ordered under one roof. Mixed Thal is the culmination of that dream.
